I didn't post anything for so long that I even forgot m nickname!
Anyway, I'm KNITTING again! I mean I'm knitting, not crocheting! (Although, I'm crocheting too, left it for a while).
The mother of my husband gave me her stash of OLD wool stash and told me to knit socks for my hub (don't even ask me about her requests, she didn't even say "please" as usual, usually she just gives orders like that, and, by the way, we live together, and don't even ask me about that too!). It was several month ago and recently I came across an "Interweave Knits" pattern of te-up socks on dpns in several gauges (smmer 07 issue). Of course, I immediately decided that I need to knit them! I took this OLD hand-spun yarn in several colors 3 days ago and can't put it away ever since! I named this socks OLD UGLY socks.
But that is even not an issue - I'm so happy to USE this yarn! It is not bought by me, it was not expensive and probably that is why! I'm not AFRAID to use it!! With a GOOD yarn I'm afraid that I'll do a mistake and my good yarn will be "ruined", not really, but the sign of "used" will show. I don't know what to overcome it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not greedy. I just don't like to WASTE the yarn. If it 's already been used, It has small tear and the knitted object will not look good bla bla bla... Do you have the same issue?

OK, I started a new live!
A PLACE where you are located has a lot to do with your knitting habits! I HAD to learn to create a knitwear all aver again! Do you know why? Because there is no gauge in Russian patterns!! At least not in all of them! So, I HAD to fall in love with starting a new project at least 3three times until I get the gauge (that I counted myself) right!

Since I moved her in April, I knitted a baby top down sweater, a baby hat (LACE, that I have never done before!), a baby top down socks (top down that I have never done before too, moreover, without any pattern!). Now I'm doing lace top for myself and lace baby hat for summer-I loved lace so much that couldn't get enough of it!

I bought several long needles here-something that I was all against because I love circular needles-it's not hard for hands, but anyway, the samll baby hat was joyful to knit on them and then saw (!!!). I hated to saw!

What else? Kitchener sewing!! I did it!!!! With help of a podcast, but I did it!!!

Needles here are made in China or Turkey, Yarn is made in Russia, some with "forein fine merino wool".

I mwant now sock set from KnitPicks/ I'm thinking ho9w to get them!! Maybe a swap??

How I moved across the ocean

it is Pacific ocean! I'm moving back to Russia! I can't part with my stash, even if there is not much good yarn left or if left, in not enough quantity for a big project as a sweater for example. And I don't know the prices there for yarn. When I checked last time 2 years ago, prices were as high as in New York! And I took all my needles and hooks into my suitcase with me (didn't send it by package) so it won't be lost!

That's right! I didn't like working with DK or sport weight yarn until I realized that it is the hook to blame, not he yarn! Usually I crochet with Susan Bates Silvalume hooks, but with sport weight yarn I tried Susan Bates Quicksilver 3.5 mm. I hate it!!! The grid is too small to hold the loop and I couldn't stand it!! I ordered the rest of Silvalume hooks online--what I don't have to complete my collection! I'm so glad!!! I wanted to find Silvalume in bigger sizes--from 8 mm and couldn't find it, though.
I'm constantly crochet, almost every evening (more at night). Yesterday I tried fillet crochet--and loved it! I did a heart from Crochet today! magazine. Today I did my name in Russian and now wear it as a bracelet! I want to make my mom's name for her birthday.
Now to pictures:
I still hope to make a perfect WARM blankie for my daughter. I imagine that I'll do a small blanket now and will add to it as she grows, so the blanket will grow with her. I had one demand: it should NOT be granny squares!! Also it should not be too lacy or it wouldn't be warm. And one more thing: I wanted to use variegated or multicolored yarn, so I don't need to change the colors. Here is the swatch of the pattern that I found in IC:
I love this pattern! Here is what I did with Patons Decor:

It is just 1 skein. I saw it in the store and liked colors and wanted to try it. I don't like what is it made of (80% acrylic, 20 wool), but the colors are nice and it is machine washable. I'll buy 2nd and 3rd skeins and will make it bigger.

My ideal blankie will be from Patons Classic Merino wool 3 colors or so. Wait for swatches!
BTW, the 1st swatch is made with Cottontots. i started the sweater:

I know, I need to concentrate on one thing, but can't! When I "crack" the pattern, it is not interesting for me anymore!!! (i mean I start to understand how it's constructed and look like in real life). That is why I started to design --it is way more interesting to figure out by MYSELF how to make it than to just follow someone else's pattern!!!

Oh, I'm so glad!!! I dreamed about case like that for several years!!! Now not all my hooks , but Susan Batets Silvalume hooks (I ordered the rest, they are coming) are in one place, placed in order of their size!!! Thanks to craftydaisies for the template. I did my case 20'' wide, not 18". it took me 3 hours to sew it. I was a little bit afraid that my seams will be not straight, but they turned out great!! And the last thing: it is recycled from husband's old shirt!

I did several rounds and thought that the fabric is too loose and tried it with 5,5 mm hook,as I would do it normally with worsted weight yarn:

but after several rounds it was obvious that the fabric is too stiff and I abandoned it and returned to my first try.

..but can you believe that a ling-time crocheter has never done a granny square before? Well, you better believe, because this is me. I don't like granny squares! OK, I said it. I just don't like how they look like! Not cool to me!
Yesterday I had a creative bag. I wanted too do every stitch and motif that I ever wanted to do. I needed to get it out of my system, to move further. Here is what I did:

Yes, I know, it's acrylic, but that's why I'm using it to try new stitches instead of using good yarn!

Here is the swatch that I wanted to do for a long time too. It's Bernat Cool Crochet (70% cotton, 30% nylon), light worsted or DK weight, usingE4/3.5 mm hook
I'm not in awe in this hdc swatch how he colors ar changing , but I've always wanted to crochet socks (I knitted one pair already and wearing them constantly), like these for example
I need to check them on Ravelry and look how they turned out.
This veriegated yarn is good for baby items. That is what I bought it for -- to do a sweater from Crochet today! magazine by Candy Johnsen. Not with these balls,
I need to do swatches with different stitches in this yarn to see which stitches it looks best. For every variegated yarn there is a sitch to shine in!

...is miserable. I was listening to Craft Sanity podcast yesterday with Lily Chin. She was describing how is she working twice amount of time to get average salary. And she is a renown designer! Prices for designers' work has been DOWN since 1980's. Something is really wrong with it. Of course, it's not the most demanded work in the world, but big corporations shouldn't take advantage of people who are so passionate about this.
I was listening also to the last Cast on podcast with Annie Modesitt. She is the only one designer who has the courage to speak about it!
I got today Knit Pick's Shine Worsted. I'm going to crochet a sweater from "Everyday crochet" by Doris Chan. She is my the most favorite designer now. I like EVERYTHING that she is doing. We both love dresses and top down design and design that I can wear everyday, not just at summer. I'll chain on today! :)

I have a lot of news!
I designed ....( can't write) and deciding which magazine/yarn company to submit it. Or maybe I need to design more and submit it at once.
I'm also ordering yarn to try how it hangs/ perform in the crocheted item. I'm convinced now that 100% cotton is not the best yarn out there to crochet with because of the weight of the fabric. Especially if it is a big garment as a dress or a sweater for an adult. I'm looking for yarn that has some blend as nylon to retain the shape of the garment also. And it is good if it would be machine washable. It should hang well, not be stiff when crocheted. Soft to skin.
I found several yarn lines that I'm happy with. Cool Crochet from Bernat, Knit Picks Shine worsted and Sport, Main line should be good. I tried TLC Cotton plus -- too stiff and bulky and Lion Brand Cotton Ease is too bulky and stiff too. They don't hang well also. I did swatches.
I'll make swatches and see how they'd behave, and will post later.
One thing that i DON'T want to use is bad yarn, 100% acrylic. If I'm putting THAT much time to design and crochet the garment, I want it to last forever!
I want to make a web site to sell my patterns, maybe separate site, maybe here.

I didn't knit for a while, then started to do a top down hat and it didn't turn out well (too big). The yarn was good, though. I'm not going to rip it. I have new policy-NO RIPPING BACK!
I decided, whatever I do, it's my time, my skills, and even if I don't like it, I keep it as a reminder NOT TO KNIT. I'm joking. Maybe not.

So, I'm crocheting again. It's quick, productive, and satisfying. Especially when I don't have time with the baby. What I started:

a baby hat (done)
a hat for myself (done)
a dress that has 2 years of my desire to do it (started just last night, don't live the Lion Brand Cotton ease yarn- too stiff, hope with washing it will be softer, if not-the hell with it, but I love the dress!
amigurumi -a bunny (just started)
amigurumi-a kitty (80% done).

You see-so little time, so much done! And I'm doing it only during my baby is sleeping-after 10 or 11 pm. I felt uncontrollable desire to CREATE, and I'm going with it!

P.S. I started also a dress or halter from Everyday crochet book, but I need to buy yarn from Knit Picks.

I looked FAT in it. I have to chill out. I know that it's what I AM doing wrong, but anyway. Spent so much time for something that my baby can't wear... I'm taking my time. I'm completely obsessed with knitting my own clothes. In the stores I look at every knitted item and think that I can do that and even better because I'd pick 100% wool instead of this yackie acrylic! I want also to learn sewing so I wouldn't depend on any store! Also I want something one of a kind.

I was rejected! OK, I said it! Last week came a package from Interweave Crochet that I sent on February. I was laughing out loud when I saw it! Really! It was like a throwback to the past! How much time passed! How much changed! I'd definitely wouldn't send it now. Now I know a lot more and this package was put together at the last moment before deadline. It was felted case for hooks. I put only one swatch that was crocheted. There were no felted swatch. Also the instructions were written by hand--I didn't know yet how to use software and what kind of software to use to write it and to draw. I wouldn't look at it now for certain. And I think the biggest reason for rejection was that they are NOT interested in cases, only wearable garments (have you seen the magazine?)
The learning point:
1. there are half a year (!) in acception/rejection at Interweave
2. do it professionally
3. pitch it to the right place

Everybody are doing socks!

Guess now what I'm doing?? Yes, socks! I couldn't resist and open "The Knitter's Handy book of Patterns" by Ann Budd and cast them on on 4.5mm dpn and Patons Classic merino Wool. I was unsure of this variegate yarn, but it looks wonderful!

And these are my first pair of socks that will be knitted from the top down! I felt READY to do them for the first time after hearing and reading so much about how to knit them. Finally! I'm doing the gusset with sewing thread. And I know that they are thick and they are suppose to be thick because I don't wear slippers at home, I wear
thick socks instead!

I love the way colors are changing diagonally!

In fact, I have startritis. Now I painfully want to start lace shawl. I spent a lot og hours on Ravelry in searxh of a PERFECT shawl. I found it (by Meg Swansen), but she didn't have any notes on how to knit it, so...

And I received yarn for Shopping tunic (see it on Ravelry). And needles. Which are US 19/15 mm. Big!

...in fact, the most interesting book EVER!! It's 1967 RUSSIAN knitting teextbook!!! I'm so thrilled!!! It's written in a way that it teaches to DESIGN and think for yourself, not to follow patterns. There are patterns, but not as today's , they are word instructions.

This book reminds me of E.Zimmermann's books., but it more thorough (325 pages!), and also has a lot of stitches patterns and instructions how to knit in the form of lessons. The one thing that I like the most is that it teaches how to constract the schematics of the project to fit MY specific size (by hand, of course, no computers in 1967). There are men and womens sweaters, jackets, hats, mittens, and also skirts and dresses and one purse in the back of the book. No children patterns here.

I also like that it's in Russian. It's weard to read all those technical knitting words in Russian after learning to knit in English, they don't sound as regular words, sound .. well.. technical, but that's OK. I wonder if it's the same applies to English knitting words?

Lessons explain how to wash and dye yarn, how to construct and knit different collars, sleeves, top-down sweaters, socks, hoses,a skirt, a shawl, and swimwear--a bra(!) ans panties (!). Total is 100 lessons plus patterns.

I got this book by chance and I'm so excited!

If I'll study it all, I'm sure be able to construct those things and design myself!! This is actually the point to read it!

I realized that I am an ambitious knitter and crocheter: I love BIG progects like sweaters. The only thing that annoy me is that they are going slowly!

The yarn feels fifferent for crocheting and knitting. Because crocheting is quicker, and uses more yarn, I usually use cheaper yarn for it. (Although plan to change it when will use all my yarn). Knitting is going SLOWLY through the hands, so it is pivotal to use yarn that FEELS rich and soft!

I ordered the yarn only recently:

But I realized that acrylic is not the yarn that will look good after a while, and I will regret all my hard work. I need some nice substitution, some summer yarn, preferably natural blend, that will last long and will look good after washing.

The yarn is Simply Soft Brites by Caron International. Worsted weight. Gauge is 12 sts to 4"/10 cm in single crochet. using J-10 (6mm) hook.

...because all my days (almost) are knit in public--when I'm sitting with my daughter who sleeps in the stroller outside. Where? Here:

I love watching ducks here! Especially baby ducks. They are so cute!

I was disappointed with my progress on U-neck vest. I made mistakes several rows and had to frog it. It took me 2 evenings and several evenings between just to have courage to start to frog. Now I'm ready to move further.

P.S.
In the meantime I'm reading "The Friday Night Knitting Club" by Kate Jacobs (love it, very relaxing) and also reading several knitting books from the public library--I'm so glad that I can preview them before buying! What are they :

a pattern book with Aran sweaters--want to do one for the first time in child's size--from Knitter's magazine, called "Arans & Celtics: The Best of Knitter's Magazine (Best of Knitter's Magazine series, The)" .

Finishing BSJ, starting new Object, speed knitting

I breathed in full lungs of air and spent two hours of weaving in all ends of Baby Surprise Jacket

And...didn't do the shoulder seams (for those who don't know--the only seams in this jacket). Why? Because, aparently, I was knitting a baby sock from the yarn! When I do it, I'll post a picture of FO.

After BSJ my head was tired from deciphering a pattern and I wanted to knit something mindless. This is what I started:

I was cocky and changed the pattern from flat to circular knitting.

This is THE ONLY ONE knitted thing that I liked so far from ALL knitting magazines (and was able to do) (I'm not considering myself a beginner, intermediate is more my level). (Vogue Knitting Magazine doesn't count here because that's beyond anybody's skills)
What I've done so far:

(The yarn is Cascade 220 and I have only one skein--that I'm knitting with--will order tomorrow at WEBS if they have this dyelot--don't call me silly, please :)

P.S. And also I was counting today how fast I'm knitting: 106 sts. of one row in k1, p1 rib. on circular needles for 6 minutes--is it fast??

I gave birth to a girl on May 19!

Sorry, no pictures--bad luck.

Yesterday I actually had time to put back to stash yarn that I had in my closet on the floor--I don't think I'll need it for another...century. Kidding! :)

I did put UFO's in another bag and put it closer. But actually I decide that I don't want to finish projects that I don't want to do anymore--I DON'T NEED to KNIT THEM!! WHY SUFFER???!!!!! I want to enjoy my knitting, not torture myself, especially now, when I don't know when I'll do something again.

Maybe i"ll TRADE it-- DOES ANYBODY WANTS TO TRADE IT?? I'd like some Koigoo wool designs Kersti color 308 (9) or Aussie wool any pretty color--not many skeins, maybe just one, just to play with it, I've never knitted it.

My mom arrived from Russia and I stopped knitting for a while. She brought me undied goat yarn from Russia

As you see, it's not tightly spun, but very soft and warm.
I'm going to knit socks for my baby from it.

The colorway is called Natural Geranium. I love it! Socks are not done yet, but willl be soon.

Knit Picks Options, books, a cardigan for myself

1. I've got my Knit Picks Options needle set!!!!!!!!
I'll try something to knit with them right now!

2.I've got the new book. I had DANGEROUS thought to be a knitwear designer. After I did a research on books about knitwear design, I realized that there is not many books about it. This and Newton's "Designing Knitwear"

I have to study how to do sewn pattens too, as Lily Chin does--she makes first a pattern from a sewn piece and then from it makes knit/crocheted design.

This is what I was doing yesterday during the day and night. (That's why I'm so sleepy now).

This is the story of the sleeves of these cardigan:
First, I decided to do them as in the pattern. I didn't like the result. I was doing them on one needle, they grow, and didn't have enough space on it. Second, they were too wide for my taste.

I ripped them and decided to pick stitches from the sleeves and knit them from the top. To do this, I needed to block fronts and back and sew them. Which I did.

I'm proud of my seams . They are invisible

And this is the beginning of the left sleeve

I picked up stitches first 3 to 1--too many stitches around, and the sleeve will be too wide, then 2 to 1, then one to one (one stitch is picked, another one is picked in one). With the last I was pleased. Not too wide.

Then, when I began to knit, I wanted to make the seam less bulky--after all, this is THREE colored cardigan, plus other THREE--it is bulky! I wanted to picked stitches closer to the seam. I did it on the right sleeve. Compare:

You probably won't see any difference. And you'll be right because it doesn't exist.

I decided to go ahead and try everything that I want to try. This is my indulgence. After all, there will be no time to do it after the baby is born. (For at least several months, but I still hope sooner...)

I ripped out the yoke completely and doing it over. I decided to see if I knit tighter, will it work with the gauge?

The previous yoke was too loose and maybe that is why I didn't get the right lenght of the yoke?

2.This was my main indulgence--to see how baby surprise jacket (E. Zimmermann's) will look like with MY tools. I've seen a lot of them on zimmermaniacs.blogspot.com and wanted to do it for a long time.

I realized that the yarn is wrong (Patons classic merino wool, variegated as you see) It looks good with crocheted squares, but not so with garter st.

Then, the bamboo needles... I liked them before, but they irritate me now. My hands are begging me for metallic needles. Can't wait to see my Knit Picks Options needle set. And the instructions was not very clear to me. Thanks the blog, I can get answers.

3. I'm knitting also the sweater samplerfrom "The sweater workshop" by J. Fee.

It is a VERY useful and thorough book not only for beginners, but for intermediate knitters as well. I do want to make a sweater from this book (from the bottom up, especially the Aran sweater). I was arrogant before about doing all this stripes and doing rib (Ah, who CAN"T knit it????!), but after making this sample I know that I didn't know important details. So, don't be arrogant, learn, and learn, and learn, you'll benefit from it tremendously!

I have a pair of knitted booties already .
I wanted to make another pair. And, for a change, I picked my metallic needles. And colors of Patons SWS yarn are beautiful--I love them!
Well, that's my confession--I'm a sucker for colors!! I can buy yarn only for colors, regarding of everything else...

5. Now I'll be complaining. Wanted to buy Koigu for Baby surprise jacket and Aussie wool for top down sweater, but can't walk to the store... Can't walk to any long distances. To order online, I have no patience to wait. I'm sorry for myself :)

This is my trying to do a top down sweater from B. Walker's "Knitting from the top." i tried double increase on the page 21 and didn't like it. I only have read about it in this book and has never seen it before, maybe that is why I'm doing it wrong.
That is why also I'm a fan of VIDEO, not books on techniques. It's better to see once than to read several times. Knitting is a visual art! Now I want to order Lucy Neatby's DVDs on finishing techniques.

This sweater is for me, but I don't like it already now. I have to pick up the collar after starting and this increases... I'm thinking also about buying a human doll to be my model. Knitting is so reach art and I have to learn so much that to try every project that I want to try I'll need to spend all my life to knit it in MY size. I need to choose somebody/something smaller. I was thinking about a cute bear that I have, but it doesn't have human proportions.

3) Speaking about cotton.

I have in my stash 100% cotton yarn (http://www.plymouthyarn.com/index.php?nav=cYarn.yarnSearch) that I bought for crocheting a summer dress. I made a swatch and it was too heavy for a dress (I admit that I didn't know anything about cotton then).
After that I decided to do a nursing top from http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring05/PATTpeekaboob.html.
It was a good idea. 100% cotton for the summer + something really usuful due to the baby birth. The gauge was different, though. Then I didn't know what size to knit. Decided on medium.

Then I tried to change the boring plain st. st. pattern to k1, p1 RIB on the back because cotton doesn't stretch

Then I needed to do decreases to get to top from the both sides of the sides. I didn't know how to do it in RIB, so I just went ahead and did it anyway

Do I need to write that I didn't like it? Decreases shouldn't be made in RIB. Never. Ever.
And the last thing. My fingers on the next day were aching like hell. Now I don't really want to touch it.

The swatch is great

I love it and it calls for something really simple because of pretty variegated color. Someday I'll do something from it.

4) As it is not enough. I did an inventory of my "STASH". I consider that Idon't have stash because I buy yarn for the project that I have in mind only. In some cases, like with the cotton dress above, the yarn doesn't work and only after that it sits in my closet.
Now you really want to know HOW BIG IS IT, don't you??

It's 4 boxes, 2 of which is my UFOs and FOs! Not much considering other's people problem. I don't browse internet in search of yarn when I'm not satisfyed with my life. I'm rather be reading knitting books. So don't blame me. I don't really understand this posession urge "Ineed to buy yarn or it will be gone." So what?? Will be another one.

I got rid of 100% acrylic Lion Brand yarn (yak!). Just threw it and never looked back. I have a lot of Lion Brand in my "stash." In my protection I have to say that it's not intended to be used for making wearable staff. I'm going to crochet toys for Christmass tree.

I'm finished! This pattern is from E. Zimmermann's "Knitter's Almamac." I used Clover US 8 (5 mm) needles : one 16" circular and 5 dpn. Yarn is knit Picks Swish Superwash (100% wool). I started on April 3, finished yesterday. (I was knitting it on and off, not every day)

I'm very pleased with the results, especially with seams.

You know that seams shows if you are advanced knitter or just playing with yarn.

But the really pleasing thing was my husband's reaction. First he said "good", which in his jargon means "exellent." Then he thought a little bit and asked "Did you buy it?" "I knitted it" (Like he has never seen me knitting it--that's how he's paying attention to what I'm doing.)

The only confusing thing was what will be the size of baby leggings. EZ writes that "you shouldn't worry about it bacause babies comes in all sizes." Well, what if I want a particular size? It wasn't my case, though because there is no baby yet. I intended to use it for this fall and winter--we'll see how it will fit! When the baby will outgrow it, I'll be able to make leggings in larger sizes.

I'm reading a lot this month. i registered at my public library where found several really good books. Some of them are here:
I caught in desire to design my own sweaters and other garments. I did swatch from B. Walker's "2nd treasury" of cables" and realized that I'm not so interested in the fancy patterns (yet) as in constructing a form, shape, size. Patterns will be the next step.
After making and re-making Zimmermann's seamless yoke sweater (that I haven't even finished yet) I don't want to make another garment from the bottom--too much trial and error. Why do I have to make my life so difficult if I can avoid it???
B. Walker is my new enigma designer. Her "knitting from the top" is my new favorite. Seamless top down sweater is my next BIG THING. I'm free from patterns. I can do fitted garments. I can write patterns myself. I can create!

Another book that i want to write about is . Particularly, "Cast off." I was VERY disappointed.It's not funny, it's not informative, it has no value! The only thing that Yarn Harlot has is her sense of humor. She is likable. Very important for a media person. But she doesn't share her experience with us. She doesn't write pattern books. Why do I need her? To entertain me. There was not much entertainment in last 2 books. Maybe she is alredy done.

It's been 1:13 in the morning, April 2, 2007--a historical date, because my first pair of socks is done!!~ I'm wearing them now!! (Very warm, by the way)

You can see that they are different, and this was intentional. I don't like THE SAME EXACTLY socks, or they'll look like manufactory made.
They are done using Denise Interchangeable needles (and I found out right now that hey were different #7 & 6) in magic loop. Pattern with tutorial is here http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/2mlsocks_start.htm. The yarn is Patons SWS (70% wool, 30% soy), which I wanted to try because I've never tried soy before.
The only question left is TO BLOCK or NOT TO BLOCK?

Yesterday I finished my FIRST SOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It fits perfectly!! And I did it without any help!!
There are 6 attempts left behind and I'm BEYOND happy now!!!!! HURRAAYYY!!!!!!!!

I don't wear slippers at home. I wear socks instead--the thick one, done from worsted weight yarn. My mom usually sends me pairs from Russia, but now I have holes in ALL of them and desperate to wear something instead like them. They all have been done from 100% wool straight from sheeps, no dye, no nylon, everything is hand made--shearing, spinning, and knitting, of course. So there is no nylon, and they wear out quickly (by me anyway). So that's why I'm twice happy!! Idid it myself and I have something to wear!
P.S. This is a toe-up sock. All top-down socks didn't work for me because I didn't understand how to turn the heel. The yarn is Patons SWS--70% wool, 30% soy.

EZ's seamless sweater finishing

I don't know about you, guys, but EZ's percentage system just doesn't work for me. As I understand, the neck shouldn't stand up. I did everything as she wrote: decreased to 40% of total body stitches (108 sts)(=44 sts), done back-of -neck shaping and ribbing for 1". Keep in mind that the yoke is even SHORTER than it should be (should be 1/4 of the circumference of the body, which is 36"=9" and my yoke is 8").It doesn't look good.

For this type of sweater the collar should LIE on the neck, not stand up. I want to rip it back to end of the yoke and do plain St st neck so the collar would curl outward from the body, without back-of-neck shaping. Any suggestions, comments?

Been there, done that. It was fun. I've seen the creators of several podcasts and DIDN't buy the book because it was hard for me to stand there in line.

Thesee are the members of Stitch n'Bitch club thet is meeting in the Point cafe on tuesdays. I've been there this tuesday. Likely to go there again.

The Fashion Technology Institute's Haft Auditorium was full of people (OF COURSE). The lighting was deem, so my pictures aen't great either.

Why the very end of ANY kind of work tooks me longer than the whole work before??? Can't finish the sweater!
I had knit the color chart until I tried it on and understood that the yoke is too long for me. I even sewed the underarms to see how it will look on me.

So, I decided to rip it back and REDO the color chart (read: to shorten). I drew another chart and reknit the upper half of the yoke. I did'n do the pictures of it yet. I'll do it when the sweater will be finished.

My husband went to trip to Russia and I'm alone. It's good and bad. Good that I have all that time to myself and don't need to do dinners, cleaning, ironing etc.( And I have the WHOLE bed to myself.) Bad because I miss him. But he will be back soon. So that's OK.
Now--I do have a deadline--the birth of my child (who is kicking me harshly right now). I don't know exactly when it happen, so I want to finish my WIP ASAP. So I knit , and I knit, and I knit through days and nights (literally).

These are the old sleeve that is gone now on the top and on the bottom --the new one. Tne new one has shape to it and is slimmier right to my hand. I love it now!

This is almost finished body. Almost because after I finished both sleeves, I did short rows on the back of hte body, as EZ says in her "Knitting workshop" DVDs.

This is what I have on this second. First I wanted to do a yoke in 3 colors (as you can see on the picture), but then I decided to do only violet because of the chart--the repetition of the chart is too big (16 sts) to have several colors blend togeher and the flowers wouldn't look good stripy .

P.S. I have pain in my fingers, but I knit and knit anyway. Hope I'll finish soon!

What happens when you are too lazy to plan ahead or count

4 or 5 days of work will have no future--I'm going to frog it! Right now!

First, I decided to do everything completely as EZ says: hems at lower edge and on sleeves, her method of increasing on sleeves and her 40" around body--because I'm pregnant and was in doubt what circumference I want to do.
40" have been too wide even for my pregnant 7 mo. belly!
Increasing on sleeves--too drastic, and the ending circumferences were too wide also.
At the end, I didn't like that there is no ribbing around lower edges on sleeves and body--I didn't like that I need to go back after I'm done and do it! (It would have been difficult because I was doing it on ONE big circular needle, and it's not fun).
I was lucky that I found a pattern in FC Easy Knitting summer/spring 2004 that was founded on EZ's system (not precise, though). And I also liked the pattern on this yoke. The only disadvantage is that the pattern is designed for men! So, I'm changing figures and will do 36" around the body and take the yoke pattern (which is for women really because of big flowers).

P.S. When I was uniting the body and one sleeve yesterday, I discovered that there are only 110 stitches in the body, not 120 as I planned! That was a HUGE discovery for me, I didn't expect it!! And I was done with sleeves already (that should be 33% of the body stitches around at the end)--so they were wrong either. Initially, I wanted just to redo the sleeves from the point of increasing, and then decided to redo them all over to add ribbing. At the end, I decided to redo the whole body to make it smaller and add ribbing too.
I've been sitting yesterday until 5.30 in the morning, trying to draw the pattern that I like.

Later, when I was in bed, I decided to take this flower pattern from the magazine anyway. I was concerned because it has more than 5 stitches of one color in one row at the bottom and decreasing that didn't suit the EZ's decreasing style. I will solve these problems by adding little dots and do decreasing at the end of the yoke after I'm done with colors.

P.S. Maybe do you know where I can find READY ski sweater pattern for a women and men ?

I'm so HAPPY right now! This is the best present that I could do for myself!
Today in Russia is the"international women's day", when everyone is celebrating it by not going to work or school, so it's a big deal there nationally. A couple of days ago I foung out that there is actually VIDEO with EZ HERSELF available. I was really surprized because I've never heard of them before. Of course, I ordered her "Knitting Workshop" immediately!! Especially it would be useful with my work at her seamless yoke sweater!
I got it an hour ago and I'm watching it!! HURRRAY!!!!!!!

Ok, I have a lot of news.
I began my work at a throw for the sofa that was lying in my closet for 1,5 years without any movement. HURAAH!!!!
Also I'm going to finish a project that I want to sell to a magazine. Of course, I'm not going to show and tell what is it.
My work on the winter baby blanket is in progress. Also on the amigurumi doll.

Yesterday I picked up from my closet acrylic yarn that I bought in Argentina ( I was influenced by the post in Crochetville that you have to crochet/knit a baby blanket from soft yarn that is washable and it is not wise to spend a lot of $$$ for something that is going to be washed frequently). So, I decided that I use the yarn that I don't know what to do with anyway for the summer blanket for the baby.
The yarn has no consistent thickness: it is thick in one place and thin in another. So, to show all colors and the changing thickness I have to choose very simple stitch.
I tried stockinette stitch and sc stitch. Which one do yo like more???
My husband told me the that he likes the knitted one and I like the crocheted one.

I bought Paton classic merino wool in colors that I like and start to do a winter baby afghan.
I bought afgan hook 5.5 mm and now I can do tunisian or afghan crochet.
I'm going to do different patterns of tunisian crochet and then from this blocks will sew an afgan.

The first felted project (a bag)

This was the first felted bag that I knitted. It was a disaster because I didn't know how to felt and left it unchecked in the washing mashine. It shrinked completely.

I can add that the pattern was from "the Happy Hooker", infamously known for it's billions mistakes. I altered it a little bit to avoid holes in the flaps. My lesson is that now I'm gonna create projects from famous and respected designers who are known for their quality work to avoid frustration and losing time and yarn (I frogged the first hat and couldn't use this yarn because it splited). And also the yarn should be smooth too!

my grandmother

My grandmother was a spinner and a knitter. Was because she can't see so well now. She has her house where several years ago she had about 30 ships. The process of shaving ships, sinning yarn and knitting socks never ended--she has 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and now 2 greatgrandchildren. I can proudly say that I saw it all!!! And I am the only one from all this family who is knitting.
I'm wearing her socks constantly! (Even that second)
